Wynn's Story

Big Daddy

Jun 26, 2026

Short & Sweet? Have you ever been to one of my speeches???

Wynn will always be Big Daddy to me. He was the anchor man on our bowling team that forever changed the Nortel Men’s League. Somewhere along the way we nicknamed him Big Daddy and you could hear us across the bowling alley screaming it out when he would finish the tenth with three strikes.

He was my coaching buddy as we raised our kids the right way and engaged in friendly baseball competitions in our small town of Carleton. We enjoyed the rivalry but we were both there to win (Wynn).

I met Wynn in the gravel outside the lumber yard and we instantly hit it off. He had to tell me his name a few times because I had never heard of the name Wynn. I thought he was encouraging me to accomplish something.

We spent a lot of time together at the old Grafton Inn, Nortel Lanes, Carl’s Hide-A-Way, The Star, numerous ball fields, his deck, etc and were never short on conversation. When our coaching was done, we did not see each other as much but when we did, it was like were in constant contact.

I think we all lost a piece of our lives when Wynn went to see Jesus. We all know we have to go someday but the courage that Wynn displayed in those final days is simply remarkable. I think Jesus truly had taken over his body and was welcoming him home.

I better stop now because the keyboard is pretty wet for some reason. I truly loved this man and I miss him dearly. I hope that this blog and the Jesus figurines continue his legacy.

I pray that each of you gets a chance to have a friend like Wynn. I’m thankful that I had that chance.

See you later Big Daddy.
